Der Opernball - Overture

Richard Heuberger (1850 - 1914) was an Austrian composer of operas, various orchestral works, choral works, and songs. He did not achieve popularity with these works. His compositions seemed to be too subtle for the "big" audience. However, his first operetta "Der Opernball" made his name known to a wider circle. The five operettas he wrote after that, did not manage to keep a repertoire. The overture "Der Opernball" is not a simple sequence of operetta fragments. It is sparkling and certainly has a refined level, with the irresistible waltz "Gehen wir ins chambre séparée" possibly as the highlight. Also worth mentioning is a "Cinderella-like" midnight moment (bar 264) and an appealing gallop to finish. Der Opernball - Overture
