Description

César Cui (1835 - 1918) was a Russian composer, but by profession, he was an army officer (as an engineer). He was also a feared music critic. He was a member of the so-called "Mighty Hope", but certainly the least of these 5 composers striving for true Russian music. "The Cedar" ("Le cèdre") is the first movement from "A Argenteau", a collection of 9 character pieces for piano. Alexander Glazunov orchestrated some of these piano pieces. "The Cedar" is certainly not program music; this title was only chosen to indicate a certain atmosphere. The Cedar
