Tres Preludios (Three Preludes)
Description
Written in 1993, while still studying with Ernesto Cordero at the University of Puerto Rico, these pieces have been performed widely. The first two, Grafístico - rápido and Grafístico - con sorpresa, are modeled after the Cinco estudios de grafía by Cuban composer Flores Chaviano. The third prelude, Tumbao, is inspired by Ernesto Cordero´s aesthetics, using afro-Caribbean rhythms. This one, in specific, is modeled after Raphy Leavitt´s bolero montuno, Payaso. This song is included in Raphy Leavitt y la Selecta first LP, “Payaso” in 1971, the same year Alberto Rodríguez Ortiz was born.
